                                                    Facts

“. . .which God, Who cannot lie, promised long ago. . .” (Titus 1:2)

It has been said that Facts are stubborn things. When it comes to faith, stubbornness is a desirable trait. My personal desire is to get to the place where I am exceedingly stubborn about trusting anything and everything spoken by God in His Word.

Faith is not achieved by “working it up.” It is not a matter of human will power. Real faith is a matter of trusting a person who has made a promise or a commitment to you. You consider that person to have integrity. You believe they are honest. This trust can be extended from a person to companies, institutions, governments, currencies, etc.

When I purchase an airline ticket, I treat the entire transaction as though it is really going to take place. I am actually going to fly to a certain city on a certain day. I trust the Airline Company. Therefore, I take action. I make all kinds of arrangements to make my planned travel a reality even though the event is in the unseen future. I enter it into my calendar. I communicate to family and friends about the plan. I arrange for a rental car and lodging at the destination. I pack my suitcase and make sure all necessary documents are in order. I make arrangements about things at home during my absence. If I am going on a vacation, I also spend time dreaming and thinking about the things I will see and do once I have arrived.

I treat my planned airline trip as a Fact. Someone might say that there is nothing unusual about acting this way. It is normal to make all those arrangements.

When God makes a promise, it is intended to be treated as a fact.

Take, for instance, the promise of eternal Life. Would it not be wise to take the matter so seriously that every plan and action in life would literally revolve around this staggering promise? I mean every plan, literally. People who trust God always take action in light of His Word.

God’s reliability is based upon His personal nature. God is so honest and good that the idea of lying is absolutely and positively foreign to Him. He cannot even “go there.” It is impossible for Him to lie. The knowledge of this should revolutionize the way we see His words.

Is it possible for you to lift a locomotive with a single hand? --- to walk right up to a train and pick up the engine with your bare hands? No, you say, it is impossible. In the same way, it is just as impossible for God to lie as it is for you to perform such a feat as lifting a multi-ton locomotive.

When we treat His Words as Fact, then faith turns His promises into prophecies.  His Words are bound to come true.  His Words remain true when all is dark, when all seems hopeless. Circumstances do not change the Facts. Real faith simply requests that God clasps their hand more tightly when passing through a dark tunnel.
